did a track workout with court, jenifer and haley.

I was totally nervous for this. Cuz i havent done a track workout in over 3 yrs! yikes!! I use to Love...well really like track workouts. I ran track in HS and loved/liked it!:)

But since doing the Ironman a few yrs ago. I got into the going really long and slow routine....and kinda liked....LOVED it!!! But time for a change!!

We did the workout at the Redmtn elem. school. The track there is more like a walking path and is not a 400m track.(its .33 miles...so around a 500m track..i think!)  Anyway. in a way it was kinda fun...but it kinda messed with my brain a little. But im sure ill get over it!:)

I felt really slow and out of shape. hee hee.

I didnt want to give it 100%(trying to remain injury free...gave it more like an 80% effort...but still it pushed me!)

met Cheri at SG rec ctr and did 8 mile loop. We added on one mile at the end by running around the temple. I am amazed by how many people are at the temple at 6am! 

815 min/mile pace. 

 

After, i was full of energy and wanted to run more! I knew that Court was doing 1200s. So I drove over to the track, but didnt see them, So thinking they must have decided to do it on the road. So I just decided to go home and get ready for work!

After work went to OLD NAVY. I heard that their winter workout clothes were on clearance. I got 2 nice jackets for only 30$...Yeah for me!

Today is my BDAY!!!! yeah!!! had a great day. Ran 6 miles with Haley, Peg, Heidi. Then my work called and said because of my Bday,,,, i didnt have to be to work till noon! (usually 8am). So I then went to the gym and did a Shredd class. We did a zillion squats and jump squats up the stairs.....Im gonna be sore.

Dog town half marathon! Fun day, nice weater! The only thing kinda bugging me about going into this race is on thursday the inside of my Left arch and big toe were really bugging me. I had recently switched to saucony Ride running shoes a few months ago...But I havent LOVED thiem and sometimes I feel like they are way to soft and squishy...Which most people want that in a shoe right...not me!  

I went to the running ctr to buy my good old BROOKS (other ones are trashed!)...well, just my luck they were out of my size. So i ordered some and just decided to run in the sauconys. Its just a fun race anyway!

Woke at 730 (AHHHH heaven!) and drove to Pegs house at 8am. Met her, Dane, and Tia. We drove to the start line. I then met up with Court, Haley, Heidi, and Alison.  

The first 4 miles were GREAT!!! But my only complaint was my arch and toe! --starting to bother me!

Mile 6 It really started to hurt. I decided to fall back and see if running slower would help....Well it didnt! It actually felt a little better if I went slight faster.  Mile 7.5ish caught up to the girls again. 

Tried to ignore it...but in the back of my head kept asking myself If i should stop. I have had a injury a few yrs ago...and deep deep deep down I am afraid...soooo afraid to get another one....

So I tried paying very close attention.....Mile 9ish was uphill. OMG...my foot was killing. I kinda walked this part...or a very slow jog...not sure what you would call it!

Mile 11 it actually wasnt feeling to bad (compared to when it did on the hill)...So just kept running

Mile 12 I saw ryan and my two boys. They are so cute.!!! Blew them kisses!!!!

Last mile, i had plenty energy to come in with a bang. But honestly I just wanted to keep the pace I was going, so i didnt injure my foot with all the excitment and adrenaline !

Totally happy with run. Fast tempo! Fun run with great friends!!!!

I was so tired getting up this morning. I worked the last 2 days 15-17hr shifts at work and was sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo exhausted. Thought about snoozing......but so glad I didnt!

I met court and allison and their friend stephanie and her friend from SLC.

We ran the ironman half course. Approx 12 miles.

Then added on 3 more miles with court and allison to make 15 miles.

Then added on 2 more with allison to make 17.

Felt good, foot felt good.

I have no clue what our pace was. we kept stopping etc. 2 bathroom breaks.

while running (in the dark), I tripped over a stick. I kinda rolled my ankle. It hurt pretty bad at first, but felt better by the end of the run

ran with court, haley and PEGGY POO!!! we did our tempo run...except for me it was a normal run. After our 3 mile warm up...i realize my ankle was still on the fritz since saturdays tripping episode....So I started out the tempo (suppose to be at a 720 pace)...but slowed it down. So first 15 min tempo was a 735 pace for me...Then second 15 min tempo was an 810 pace and last 10 mn was at an 805 pace.  I was a bit bummed, but really didnt want an injury. Nice thing was that Cardiovascular wise I felt great. It didnt even feel like a 8:05 pace was even hard...so that mad me feel better.

Was having such a good time, that I was 20 min late getting home....oops!

still sick. but feelin a little beter. took nyquill last night. so i felt a bit drunk this morning running!!!  Ran with Court, Haley, Allison, Heidi and Brooke.  I fell back cuz i was wheezing and breathing so heavy I felt like a sasquatch running in the dark!

ran 19 miles at night with court and haley. It was courts bday this wk so we turned it into a suprise bday run for her. We started at 9pm. Many of courts friends came and suprised her in the bushes. Nat christensen, Brooke Renyolds, Allison jumped out the first 1 mile. A few miles later Peg and Heidi...Peg looked like a million bucks :)))) (that was for my favorite blog stalker! jk...who need to start blogging!!). Kept running, then some of courtneys friends who  I didnt know came to say hi. Then around mil 7 Amber Green came an ran and talked a half a mile or so.

It was a fun first loop of the run. After mile 9 I was planning on going home. But they talked me into staying. I finished the last 10 with them. around mile 16 I was getting delirious and running crooked!!! Glad it is over. It was fun to do ONCE!!!!

So we were gonna do this run saturday morning. But since it was suppose to rain hard all saturday morning, we decided to do another night run. 

I worked a 10 hr shift at work and then got the news we were running at night. I wasnt thrilled to say the least....since the memories of the last midnight run were still fresh

Haleys hubby drove us up the course. It was windy and RAINY...and i was really trying to stay postivie. I just kept thinking....running in the rain in daylight vs darkness....

So at the top, we quickly realized that I was the only one who brought a headlamp. But it seemed to do the trick. The first 10 miles about were so windy and the rain kept whipping my face...I was really trying to go to my happy place in my head. Then my headlamp battery died!!!!

AHHHH. Pitch black in the wind and rain....am i CRAZY.....check....yes i am!!!

Haley quickly downloaded the flashlight app on her phone. we were able to see again....so nice. Around mile 13 the wind had died down and the rain had stopped....YEAH!!!!!

At this point I wasnt dreading the run. We were about half way. I felt great and It was nice that the stars were all aligining....hahaha get it STARS!

Anyway, we ran down through snow canyon park, then back to haleys house in IVINs.

When we got into IVINs. Only 2 miles left!!! at 130am we had a strange truck following us. He turned around and was driving slowly. We all spooked and hid in the bushes!!!

After it was done. I was glad it was done. get to sleep in tomorrow!!! But I swear this is the last midnight run for me!!!! lol

so many things went wrong for me this race. Just hard to pinpoint one. I hope this report doesnt sound to negative...warning...I will try not to!

I was so excited to run this. For starters I have trained really well for this race. A few things went wrong with my training though. The main thing was (running in the dark with out my head lamp) I tripped over a stick and twisted my ankle. I rested it for a week, thinking I would be ok. Then went running on it again and rolled it (my ankle was still weak and not ready yet). So after the rolling, that sealed the deal. My ankle got soooo swollen. I couldn't put any weight on it for a few days. I thought I was through. After vigourous rest (is that an oxy moron or what!!)...but yes vigourous resting, icing, and more resting. It seemed to do better. A few wks later, I attempted runnig, with a brace and seemed fine. However, Always after each run I had to come home and re ice it.

Anyway, back to Ogden. An unstable ankle, a lack of running the last month or so, and a very very very hot day made anji a dull girl!

But that wasn't going to stop me. I was going to give it my all and listen to my body..I didnt want another injury that would put me out a year again....

Oh ya, another factor. I was going on a cruise after the marathon. I flew out a few hours after the race...yes the same day. My mind seemed to be elsewhere in the race. and also leading up to the race. With packing, shopping, getting everything ready for my parents to watch my kids and working extra shifts at work so I could go on the vacation seemed to exhaust me mentally and mayble slightly physically!

So, drove up thursday night with court, haley and jennifer. We stopped in Provo and had Waffle Love waffles....so yum!!! We then drove to my parents hourse in Brigham City. (Its approx 20-30 min North of Ogden). The next day my parents made us whole wheat pancakes!!!! Then my parents headed to SG so they could watch my kids while we went on our cruise---did I metion my parents are the best!!. Ryan was planning to fly out of Las Vegas saturday morning. After breakfast, we went to the EXPO in Ogden. I want to say we were there about an hour or so. We all got a few cute headbands. One I decided to wear in the race. Tiger Print...RRRRAAAARRRR!

After the Expo, we drove to SLC. The girls wanted to eat at Cheesecake Factory. I had never been, but was willing to try it. I reminded them it was 30 min south of Ogden. No biggie right! I had these little tacos and pizzas. Not usually my food choice before a race. I think this kinda backfired on me alittle.  After dinner,  we went to a few stores. Well actually alot of stores. Looking back after, I think this was a bad idea..my legs seemed very heavy on race day. I wish I would have rested them more!! We didnt finish shopping till 930pm. Then an hour drive back to Brigham city. we didnt get to bed till 1130pm, yikes! yes another mistake I think.

Race day. woke up at 3am. Got dressed. Ate oatmeal. Taped my ankle up good. Drove to Ogden. We encountered a train on the way there and we had to take a detour to get around it. When we got there it was 510am. The website, made it very clear if we werent there at 5am that the busses would leave. So we were all paniked. We practically sprinted to the buses. But we were fine. We stood around for another 20 min or so!

At the top, went potty a few times. Then the race started. The plan was we were going to do an 8-810 pace the first half the marthon. Then the down hill do whatever we wanted. Then gun went. After the first 4 miles of going an 740 pace. I knew I would be in trouble later, if I didnt slow down. Court and haley left. I fell back to  a 810 pace. I felt good at this pace. I wasnt struggling, I do better if I save gas in my tank for the last half. 

Mile 15 ish. Is the Hill. It seemed to be very very hot at this point. I felt like I was getting heat stroke. I stopped at the water station and poured cold water on me and drank. When I started running again someone flat tired me. My shoe came off...hahah. I had to stop and put it back on! lol

Mile 17ish. Down hill. At this point I was soooooooo excited for the downhill. In a way, I wasn't prepared for Ogden. I didnt really analize the elevation or anything. I just heard it was downhill and similar to SG....So I just assumed it was. Well It actually wasn't. First 15 miles are very flat and even gradual uphill. I think this messed with my psyche a bit, which I think was another huge factor in my bombing of the race. Alot of running a race is mental....as you can tell I wasn't in that mental place I needed to be today!

Mile 16 ish. I was feeling the effects of the heat. My quads were cramping. I had salt pills on me, but did I partake...NO....I seriously wasnt thinking very straight at this point.  I think I wasnt prepared for the heat. Yes I live in SG. Where it is very hot. However, I have been running so early in the mornings when Its still cold and I have been wearing my warm clothes. So I think it was a bit of a shocker!!

Mile 18. My ankle started to feel wobbely. I tried to pay close attention and not make sudden movements while running. After a half mile or so of this. (and the combo of not mentally being prepared for the race, cruise stress, heavy legs and lack of sleep and heat and cramping---blahh blahh blahh lots of excuses i know. When i boils down to it mentally...I kinda just was done)

Last 8 miles I walked and ran. Everythime I saw a camera...of course I put up my best effort to run!!! hee hee

Was I disappointed in my decision....YES....but this is looking back 2 wks later, at the time it seemed like a great idea! HA

At the end of the race, I saw my old HighSchool Cross Country Coach. We talked. It was so good to see him. He was happy I was still running!!! I told him..."so am I"...I hope I can do this till I die. Even if my marathon time is 7+hrs!!!!

Court and Haley did alot better than me!...but said the Heat really affected their race...I think they were disappointed. I saw a few other friends from SG and some from las vegas. Everyone dissapointed in their race. I didnt feel so bad then. But I was sad for them too. Its so hard when you dedicate so much of your life and it seems to fall short.

I am remined of what My dad tells me....He use to be an amazing runner. Ran in college, etc. But he said that I shouldnt define my worth as a person or runner by my times! I am happy I can run and grateful I can!  For me the best part, is the friendships I make with others while I run!!!!

There is always another race!

 

p.s. went on my crusie. Ate lots and enjoyed life!!!! An awesome part of my trip was our ship went to cozumel mexico. We rented scooters and drove around the island. I was serioosly shocked when the road designated for bikes and scooters only was infinatley nicer than the road for cars.  On the drive we saw a sign that said. "Ironman athletes in training".....Soooo, there is an Ironman there. How cool is that!!! Im gonna put that one on my bucket list!!

walked 2 miles on the TM on our cruise. I really wasnt even sore one bit since Ogden (except my ankle) but as far a my muscles, they felt fine.  This is a first for me, cuz I usually feel like I need a wheelchair after a marathon. Probably the fact the I trained better and I walked/jogged the last 8 miles seemed to help!

65 mile bike ride with ryan. up in Islandpark idaho/montana/west yellowstone. this ride is known as "the block" .loved this. we started in west yellowstone. Rode toward Island park Idaho (leaving Montana and crossing the continential divide),on highway 20. Then Turned Right on highway 87, going past Henrys lake. We passed by the continential divide again on this highway. Then turned Right again on Highway 287, going up through Raynolds pass. Very Hilly. But Loved it. Rode along the Madison River, Passed 2 lakes. Earthquake lake and the 2nd lake (hebgen lake) we rode the shore line the whole way.This was definently my favorite parst of the ride. It was also the most difficult, but the scenery alone made it worht it! THen turn last right going back into West Yellowstone on highway 191. Ryan got a flat tire with 3 miles left to go! This was defienelty the most dangerous part of the ride. It is the main highway going toward Bozeman Montana. People drive fast. Good thing it was only 8 miles we had to go! This is a ride i will never forget!

Saint George Marathon.

Finally after 13 ish marathons....I finally qualified for Boston!!!! I was begining to think something was seriously wrong with me!!!!  Granted, the first 7 of these marthons were completly for fun...I didn't really know what a "pace" was or what "Boston" was!!!

This race, I decided with a totally different strategy.  Instead of going all out for the time I think I deserved and trained for...I decided to go for a BQ and thats it!!!  So let me explain.  The last several marathons where I wanted to qualify for Boston. I would train and the day of the race I wanted to get the most amazing time I could possibly get with my training.  All these attempts seemed to fail. Mainly due to, I went out to hard or to fast and then at the end of every race I crashed and burned and would end of minutes away from my BQ goal.  So this time, I wanted to race for the forsure thing.  I needed a 3:40:00 or under.  I printed off 2 pace bands. One that had a pace of 3:40 and one of 3:35.  I laminated them even!!!!!!!  My plan was to do a 3:35 and stay at that. If I was going faster at anytime in the race I was going to SLOW DOWN! (The 3:40 pace band was my "just incase" band!).  

The morning of:

Rode the bus up with my 2 training buddies. Court and Haley.  On the Bus ride up they told me they were going to start with the 3:15 pacer. And just "see" what happens. I think they weren't going to run that fast, but still not sure.  I immediately told them, I wasn't going to do that and wished them the best!  I also rode up with my cousin from Vegas Marylynn.  Her plan was to run a 3:30 marthon. So again, I was out!  On the bus as well was my good friend from High School, Amy. She now lives in ParkCity and was racing to get a BQ.  Her and I had similar plans.  I also need to metion my good work friend Heather S. She has recently gone though a divorce and several hard things. They day before she decided to run the marathon. It was her first. She was mostly trained and she wanted to do it as a "milestone" in her life and a "beginning" to her new life.  I sat by her on the ride up and we had some great converstations!!

Getting off the Bus. I parted ways with most of my friends. I stuck with Amy and Heather.  We hung around the fire. Had several potty breaks. 

The race began.  We decided on one more potty break!!! Then jumped in around the 4 hr pace group.  Heather immediatley said she was solo and to have a great race!  Amy and I were determined to "race smart".  The first few miles of our pace band had us going a 820pace. We worked really hard to slow down and not get caught up in the race!

So This was the best race for me.  We really havent seen much of eachother since HS. So I didn't listen to music until mile 18.  We talked and laughed and had a great time. We stopped a few times to stretch.  We stayed right on target. We would speed up or slow down accordingly.  

Around mile 18. It started to get a bit difficult. Headphones in!  But still mostly on target. maybe 30 sec behind. But doing great!  Around mile 22 Amy seemed to dissappear.  I looked back and didn't see her. With 4 miles to go, and a BQ goal. I just decided to keep going.  Feeling pretty good. The heat was the only thing bothering me now.

Mile 24. Past my family. Legs starting to feel like lead. But pushing through! Mile 25....yes one more mile!!!!! I was going a bit slower than I shouldve at this point. I was doing a 9min mile, instead of my pace band 8:10pace. Oh well. I knew at this pace, I would still get my BQ.  

Mile 25.5 My friend Amy came sprinting past me.  At first I just let her go....then I was like, wait I need to catch her. So last half mile I picked up the pace!!! She still beat me by 10sec...but I was still sto happy that she was my "push" at the end!

As I crossed the Finish line. I saw Haley and Court.  Even though we ran seperate races, we all came in 1 min apart!! Haley @ 3:35 and Court @ 3:37!!!  Yeah we all qualified and hopefully will all be going to Boston 2016!!!

Haley took me home. I then was waiting for Ryan to pass. He didnt run one day this whole summer. YIKES! He was just going to walk the whole marathon.  I walked 2 more miles with him!!! Man it was hot at this point!!!

So happy to do that with him, he was pretty miserable at the end and very sunburnt!!!
